This is a saga of a war hero, Michail Govorov, and his big family. The film will follow several generations of people from World War 2 into modern days. Thanks to being in the Communist Party's good graces, Michail is assigned to take the Regional Party Leader position. He accepts the offer and moves his family to a nice house outside of town. An atheist and a pragmatic Michail doesn't pay attention to provincial superstitions and oldwives' tales about the house he's currently living in.
